Aquadeus invests 10 million euros in a new multi-format packaging line
The natural mineral water company develops a new lid and gets out ahead of the European circular economy regulations
Aquadeus closed 2019 with an increase in turnover of 7.8 per cent
The natural mineral water company Aquadeus, part of Grupo Fuertes, has made renewed investment in its facilities with the implementation of a new multi-format packaging line. This high-performance line is the fastest on the Spanish market, and has a capacity of 45,000 bottles per hour, or up to 65,000 for 33 cl and 50 cl bottles.
This new equipment has also facilitated the introduction of a new lid, which is incorporated into the container itself. They have led the way in terms of its implementation, getting out ahead of European circular economy regulations.
Aquadeus is also set to make changes to its 8 litre carafe production line after the summer. The company will install new equipment to triple productivity and meet the increase in demand for this product format experienced in recent months.
Results
Aquadeus closed 2019 with a 7.8 per cent increase in total net sales, which amounted to a record turnover of 27.5 million euros. Exports grew by 2.4 per cent compared with 2018. The retail sector accounted for 62 per cent of sales, while the hotel and catering industry, and traditional shops accounted for 35 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively.
The company’s sales growth rate exceeded 10 per cent in the first quarter of 2020. Following the health crisis, growth averaged 1 per cent compared with the same period in 2019. This was driven by the forced closure of the hospitality sector, and the decline in tourism and international sales. That said, growth is projected to be around 5 per cent this year. However, this may vary given the uncertainty surrounding the evolution of the health crisis.
